Having grown and developed the Spunchem business and its people in the South African market since 1996, we’re dedicated to remaining a customer-focused business by investing in and developing our technology and our local people to accommodate and meet our customer’s needs every step of the way. By applying the skills and experience we’ve gained in the local market, Spunchem is best positioned to deliver world-class products for our customers at highly competitive rates.
Building on the foundation of durable spunbond equipment from Italy, which produces high weight spunbond fabric mainly used in domestic and industrial roofing, Spunchem International made the decision to install a hygiene-focused plant in 2016. Spunchem worked hand-in-hand with independent diaper manufacturers, including extensive trials of products manufactured using the technology that Spunchem employed. We evaluated all available technologies and product properties to ensure that the highest quality requirements will continuously be achieved.
This development included the installation of our SMXS line, which again increased our capacity, allowing us to fulfil and supply market demand.
Furthermore, we increased our coating / laminating and printing capacity. We now operate 3 coating / laminating lines, giving us the ability to make clothlike backing sheets, cast films, breathable films and textile backing sheets.
Spunchem also invested in a 2-colour printer and a 4-colour printer, which were installed in November 2016.
2019 was yet another year of expansion. Spunchem installed 2 more spunbond lines, again increasing our capacity to a much higher level and allowing our spunbond fabrics to be utilised in new markets. The product may not be unique in its make-up, but its versatility has certainly taught us that we needed to expand and invest in the future.
In 2020, we expanded once more, with an electrostat meltblown plant. This ensured that we can cater to the PPE industry that grew so quickly during the global pandemic.
At present, we manufacture approximately 1 billion square metres of nonwoven fabric per annum.
We look forward to many more years of growing and expansion to supply our customers’ needs.
